Fire and Rescue Department increased rating lowers local property insurance rates!

Sherman Township Fire and Rescue Department increased their rating by the ISO (Insurance Services Office)effective February 1, 2020 that will result in lower premiums for homeowners fire risk insurance in the fire protection area. ISO evaluates every fire department nationwide on a PPC (Public Protection Classification) based upon equipment, staffing, training, operational procedures, and community risk reduction. Sherman Township ISO classification review in August 2019 has increased the department's ranking from 6 to 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. Department's PPC has increased for the second time in five years. Department's PPC in 2015 increased from 10 (lowest level that does not meet the minimum criteria) to 6 and in 2019 will increase from 6 to 5. National distribution of over 41,000 fire department PPC (including full-time professional units) has most rural nonprofessional fire departments PPC between 8 and 10. A rating of 5 is the commonly associated with urban professional departments.
