Garbage service is changing to Rural Garbage Pickup
Service starts
January 1,
2012
The Township is trying out a new rural pickup service in
2012 due to continuous cost increases and management
problems with the dumpsters located in Gay; the
dumpsters will be removed on December 31, 2011. The
garbage fee has been removed from your tax
statement. You may choose from weekly to monthly pickup
on a seasonal or yearly basis. All household recyclables
will be picked for free which can reduce your amount of
garbage. Property owners may arrange for
curbside-pickup service by calling Greg Nantell of Rural
Garbage Pickup Service at: 906-233-9682 Details of the service are as follows:
- Pickup frequency is flexible; you can choose weekly,
biweekly, or monthly pickup for seasonal or yearly
service; or you can opt out entirely
- Pickup at end of driveway on Thursday afternoons
-
Each pickup of two 40-gallon bags is $4.25; any
additional 40-gallon bags are $1.00 each. Billing
cycle is quarterly (3-month service) The cost
per year is as follows:
- Monthly service is $51.00/year
- Biweekly service is $110.50/year
- Weekly service $204.00/year with “Free Month
Deal”
- Seasonal service cost is based upon your needs
- “Free Month Deal” is a full-year, weekly service
only; if bills are paid on time, you get 52 weeks of
service for the cost of 48 weeks of
service (savings of $17 per year).
- Household recyclables pickup in clear bags is free
(metal cans, #1 and #2 plastic containers, flattened
cereal boxes and cardboard, newspaper, magazines,
and mixed paper). The Township brochure describing
the recycling program can be found by
clicking here.
