Summer is coming and we’re looking forward to a calendar full of great Keweenaw events. *Want to support the trails? Many of these events raise funds for trail efforts in the Keweenaw.*
First up is the Portage Health Keweenaw Chain Drive Festival on June 19th featuring our annual mix of wonderful singletrack and fun. Registration is printable or you can register online at www.chaindrive.org
Next up is the Horsetail Scramble Trail Run and Fitness Walk at Churning Rapids on July 4th followed by the Run the Keweenaw (RTK) on July 10th and 11th in Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor. The RTK is a weekend of trail running including the Mount Baldy Summit Run, the Copper Harbor Trails Challenge 12K and the Keweenaw Trails 25K. Race as an individual or as a 2 person team. Info at www.runthekeweenaw.com Miner's Revenge Mtn Bike Race at the Adventure Mine is the same weekend, July 10th & 11th, www.minersrevenge.com Not on trails... but the Hancock Canal Run is also in July, on the 17th to be exact, www.hancockcanalrun.com
Keweenaw Copperman Triathlon is August 7th in Copper Harbor but register early because this one always fills up fast. Registration opens April 1st. Info at:
www.keweenawcopperman.org A new half ironman triathlon to check out is on August 15th in Lac La Belle. Info at: www.kuparisaari.com The Carl Olson Adventure Run and Fitness Walk hits the trails in Chassell on August 21st.
On the horizon is the Great Deer Chase on August 21st at the Swedetown Trails in Calumet with 17m, 27m and kids races. www.greatdeerchase.org
Rounding out the mountain bike season is the annual Copper Harbor Fat Tire Festival on September 5th featuring the newly designated IMBA Epic trails of Copper Harbor. Go to www.copperharbortrails.org for all the dirt.
Another event to look out for is the Ride the Keweenaw Epic Ride Weekend in May. Details available soon.
