Keweenaw County Public Safety Day
Saturday July 20th Noon to 4:00 PM
Keweenaw County Public Safety Day is returning to Mohawk for its third annual event, according to Sheriff Bill Luokkanen, and the date has been set for July 20.
The event will take place at the Allouez Township Park in Mohawk again this year, Luokkanen said, from Noon to 4 p.m.

The bouncy house will be back, games for kids, along with demonstrations by firefighers dressing in firefighting equipment. There will also be equipment and vehicles of the Keweenaw County Sheriff Off-Road Rescue on display.

Volunteer fire departments from Allouez Township, Ahmeek, Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor, Lac La Belle, and Sherman Township will be present with trucks and equipment, and there will be a Jaws of Life demonstration, as well. The County Road Commission will have some of their big equipment on the grounds, as they did last year, and Mercy EMS will have a vehicle present, too. As with last year, the smoke house will be back, along with demonstrations by firefighters dressing in the special clothing they use, using air packs, and masks.

Sheriff Bill Luokkanen said there will be canine demonstrations with Deputy Dogo, of the Sheriff’s K-9 Unit.

Luokkanen said that at approximately Noon, antique vehicles heading to Copper Harbor for the End of the Road Car Show will conduct a “drive-by” past the park.

There will be free hotdogs, chips, pop and ice cream, Luokkanen said, and the event is free and open to the public.

“The event is for the public to meet and greet members of the law enforcement, fire, medical services, and other groups serving them,” Luokkanen said.
